VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION THERAPY (VRT)
VRT is a specialized form of exercise-based therapy that is effective in improving symptoms related to inner ear disorders that can diminish your quality of life. VRT uses specific diagnostic tools and targeted exercise therapy.
The goal of VRT is to promote central nervous system compensation for the challenges your vestibular, visual, and somatosensory systems have experienced with the onset of your symptoms.
POST-CONCUSSION REHABILITION
VRT focuses on improving the relationship between the inner ear, vision, and body information (somatosensory) inputs. When a concussion occurs, the information flow and management within the systems can be disrupted, leading to post-concussion symptoms such as dizziness, imbalance, visual challenges, or feeling disoriented.
Whether your concussion was sports or accident related; assessment of your eye movements, balance and how work your sensory systems work together is needed to develop an individualized rehabilitation program which will reduce your symptoms and return you to your activities.
Equipment Used
We use (BTrackS™) , a computerized force plate system designed to assess and treat balance issues. The BTrackS™ system uses centre of pressure (COP) recordings to give an object measure of your falls risk, and how your visual, vestibular and somatosensory senses are contributing to your balance. With this equipment, we use COP recordings and visual feedback to retrain balance and orientation strategies.
Balance training can help reduce the risk of falls by improving balance and orientation.
We use infrared video nystagmography goggles (VNG) to observe eye movements during assessment and treatment.

Vestibular Rehabilitation services are delivered by a licensed physiotherapist, and should be covered by your insurance provider under physiotherapy services. Check with your insurance provider.
